According to a story in the South Florida Business Journal, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez recently vetoed a county commission resolution that required commission approval for road closures for auto racing events.
They noted that the mayor's veto temporarily saved a plan to host a Formula One Race in South Florida in 2021.
The measure would have given the city of Miami Gardens, where the race would take place, the right to ban road closures in residential areas for the race.
The race could have an estimated $400 million economic impact on South Florida but would create pollution and traffic issues for local residents.
The resolution passed the commission with an 8 to 5 vote. Nine votes are needed to overturn the mayor's veto.
