Florida SpecifierDecember 2006
The total indoor air quality market is poised for an annual growth rate of about 7.5 percent during the next five years until it reaches an estimated $10.4 billion by 2011, predicted a technical market research report. In 2005, the total market, which includes equipment, environmental services, consulting and testing services, reached $6.7 million. The individual sectors amounted to $3.6 million for equipment, $1.6 million for environmental services, and $1.5 million for consulting and testing services. The end-use markets with the most potential for applications of IAQ equipment and services include residential structures, commercial buildings, school and health care facilities, said the report called "U.S. Indoor Air Quality" from BCC Research. Furthermore, the commercial segment accounted for the biggest portion of the IAQ market at 26 percent, followed by schools with 22 percent, residences at 19 percent and health care buildings at 17 percent. The report forecasts a 10 percent average annual growth rate in consulting and testing services through 2011, followed by 9.5 percent in environmental services and 5.2 percent in equipment. Factors related to the expected growth include a heightened interest in air quality due to rises in everything from respiratory diseases, such as asthma, to outbreaks of infectious diseases including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, and attention given to the effects of toxic mold. The equipment market includes products ranging from air cleaning and heating ventilation and air conditioning equipment to filters and indoor air quality instrumentation.
