As part of the foundation for seamless intelligent transportation systems nationwide, the U.S. Department of Transportation proposed two rules aimed at speeding the local ITS deployment by requiring planners to consider integration and interoperability in the planning and project development process. The rules also require development of an ITS regional architecture for future projects, and applicable standards and interoperability tests.
